What is Maths Month North Yorkshire Coast?

Maths Month North Yorkshire Coast is an annual event taking place in schools and communities across Whitby, Scarborough and Filey. The first Maths Month North Yorkshire Coast is taking place this March.

Maths Month is working with parents and teachers to change the perception that not being good at maths is OK and encourage students and the wider community to love maths!

How can I get involved in Maths Month?

Teachers and families across North Yorkshire are invited to attend the following free events:

Tuesday 12th March 4-6pm Teaching for Mastery – What could it look like in your classroom?


Scarborough Spa


This is an opportunity to spend time with fellow teachers to better understand what the principles of Teaching for Mastery could look like in the classroom. Teachers from across the Opportunity Area will be available in a ‘teachmeet’ style event to share their experiences of implementing Teaching for Mastery.
11th – 12th of March Supporting Your Child with Times Tables Scarborough: Music Room in Spa – 16:00-16:45 12th of March.

Whitby: Leisure Centre – 16:00-16:45 12th of March

Bruno Reddy, creator of Times Tables Rock Stars (an award-winning program that he invented for his pupils), will be offering short sessions for parents on how to support children aged 5-9 as they learn the times tables. These sessions are suitable for parents of all levels of maths confidence.

These sessions are aimed at parents but parents are welcome to bring their children with them.

26th of March Bobby Seagull – Sharing the Love of Maths Scarborough Spa Bobby Seagull is coming to Scarborough to share his love of maths. Bobby will show how maths is everywhere in the world around us and how all of us can be mathematicians.

Bobby is an ambassador for National Numeracy and a regular contributor to Radio 4 and the Financial Times. With his University Challenge friend, he co-wrote The Monkman & Seagull Quiz and co-presented a BBC TV series Monkman & Seagull’s Genius Guide to Britain. Bobby Seagull’s talk is open to everyone
