Yasmin Alvarez
Scotton Lingerfield Primary School
Yasmin works at Scotton Lingerfield Primary School near Knaresborough, where she is currently a year 5/6 class teacher and the Maths Lead. She has been teaching for seven years and has developed strong expertise in delivering high-quality mixed-age mathematics teaching through a whole class mastery approach.
Yasmin has been involved in Teacher Research Groups for the past five years and was part of a Research and Innovation Work Group exploring the NCETM mixed‑age resources, which further strengthened her interest in supporting schools with mixed‑age classes. Having taught in a mixed‑age upper KS2 class for nearly seven years, she has built a deep understanding of how to structure learning effectively so that all pupils experience appropriate challenge.
Yasmin completed her Primary Mastery Specialist training in 2024/25. This year, she is leading a Focus Group specifically for schools with mixed‑age classes, supporting colleagues to use the PD and CP materials effectively and to develop sustainable, coherent approaches to Teaching for Mastery across their mixed‑age classrooms.
